southern accents outside the south
« on: January 02, 2012, 06:16:37 PM »
Someone elsewhere brought up the idea of southern accents outside of the south.

Particularly Pennsylvania.

They are found on the Pittsburgh side of Pennsylvania, not the Philadelphia side.

Then people travel from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia and bring the accent with them.

Philadelphia doesn't have a strong accent like New York does and like the South does.

I hate to say it but Philadelphian and "midwestern" talk aren't radically different.  Maybe Philadelphia speaks a little quicker.
