July 2 - Members of the popular Basij movement in the Islamic Republic of Iran have requested the state's procuracy and judicial organs to conduct an investigation of pro-Western reformist candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi's role in the illegal protests following the June 12 Presidential elections.
According to the semi-official Fars News Agency, prosecutors received a signed letter from the Basij movement accusing the right-deviationist Mousavi of committing nine separate crimes, including "undermining national security." According to al-Jazeera, the letter also accused reformist Mousavi of grave moral crimes against the Islamic Republic, such as spreading "pessimism into the public sphere."
Official news reports did not confirm whether or not authorities would indict Mousavi on the charges, but did respond by saying that they would investigate the serious matter with the utmost urgency.
